VA4WAN: Manitoba’s Amateur Radio Data Network

VA4WAN is a high-speed IP network operated by the Radio Amateurs of Manitoba (RAM), linking amateur radio infrastructure across Manitoba.
Using point-to-point links on the 2.3 GHz and 5.8 GHz amateur bands, the network connects repeater sites and supports services like AllStarLink, APRS-IS, and remote site access. VA4WAN maintains a point of presence in a commercial colocation facility, with intra-rack fiber and commercial-grade routing hardware. It is allocated two /24 subnets from AMPRNet and is globally routable via BGP. All infrastructure is built and maintained by RAM’s volunteer technical committee, who also provide hardware, configuration, and ongoing maintenance support to help other amateur radio groups in the province get connected.
